Late last night, a series of gunshots rang out near the residence of Bollywood actress Disha Patani in Civil Lines, Bareilly. Authorities reported that approximately 8 to 10 bullets were fired at the home of her father, Jagdish Patani, a retired police officer. Following the incident, law enforcement was dispatched to the scene, and a formal complaint was filed at the Kotwali police station.
Social Media Speculation
The event quickly became a trending topic on social media, with many speculating it was connected to recent comments made by Disha's elder sister, Khushboo Patani. However, their father, Jagdish Patani, refuted these claims, asserting that Khushboo's statements had been distorted and labeling the shooting as a 'conspiracy.'
Claims of Gang Involvement
Shortly after the shooting, a Facebook post emerged alleging that the gang led by Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar was behind the attack. The post, attributed to individuals named Virendra Charan and Mahendra Saran, claimed the gunfire was a response to perceived disrespect towards spiritual leaders Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj. It ominously warned that this incident was merely a 'trailer' and that further actions would be taken against anyone who insulted Sanatan Dharma.
Background of the Controversy
Khushboo Patani had previously criticized Aniruddhacharya Maharaj for his remarks regarding live-in relationships. However, many online users mistakenly believed her comments were directed at Premanand Ji Maharaj, leading to widespread confusion and outrage.
Clarifications and Reactions
In her response to Aniruddhacharya Maharaj's controversial statement, Khushboo expressed her anger, stating, 'If this were in front of me, I would explain what it means to disrespect.' She labeled such individuals as anti-nationalists and condemned their support. Following the backlash, Khushboo clarified that her remarks were not aimed at Premanand Ji Maharaj and issued legal notices to curb the spread of misinformation.
Family's Response
Disha Patani's father, Jagdish Patani, expressed his family's shock over the incident. He confirmed that the bullets used were of foreign manufacture and noted that while the name of gangster Goldy Brar was circulating, no official confirmation had been made. He stated, 'Two unidentified assailants fired at my residence... The police are making every effort... The gunshots are not local; they are foreign-made... I believe 8-10 rounds were fired... I learned through social media that Goldy Brar has claimed responsibility, but it remains unclear.'
